The first engine of the IJSSELSTROOM was a 24 pk 1 cylinder van RENNES engine with a horizontal cylinder.





The second engine was a Dutch marine engine: KROMHOUT 2 cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine of 1952, type 2K3. The power of the engine is 40 hp at 500 n/min. The clockwise running engine start with air pressure and has a mechanically operating clutch. The KROMHOUT factory does n't exist anymore.

In 2006 the Kromhout runs in overspeed, 1 cylinder ript of, and the enigine was at the end of 50 years of duty.

Gardner

The present engine of the  IJSSELSTROOM is the famous  Gardner 5LW , a 5 cylinder 4-stroke diesel engine of 1963. A rebuild engine of a generator on a Britisch lichtship. In 2007 rebuild in Canterbury Engeland. The Gardner 5LW is now the new heart of the IJSSELSTROOM with 78 PK @ 1500 rev./min.

The electrical system of the IJSSELSTROOM is solar powered with ten solar panels of 42 watt /panel. If we are sailing with our "house" we have no troubles with empty batteries or a noisy generator.

De generator is a Samofa E108 W,
a 1 cylinder watercooled diesel. The enine is a reconstructed engine by Samofa of a aircooled Hatz 108. The Samofa was a company for small engines of the dutch engine builders, Kromhout, Industrie, Brons.
